器指人的度量，才干。不成器指不能成为有用的器物。多用以指人气质平庸，不能有所成就，没有什么出息。有时也指不学好，自甘堕落。

出自《礼记·学记》：“玉不琢，不成器。”

不成器可以用good-for-nothing，ne'er-do-well，worthless等来表示，例如：

5.孔子玉不琢，不成器，人不学，不知道。是故，古之王者，建国君民，教学为先。
The Confucius, good-for-nothing, people do not learn, do not know. Therefore, the ancient king, ruler and people, education first.
